PCB Assembly Company Nearly Doubles Capacity
PCB Solutions Inc., a manufacturer of printed circuitboard assembly company, has nearly doubled the size of its assembly production facility in Layton, adding a new production line to meet increasing demand.

The new facility is expected to increase production volume by more than 250,000 units during the next year.

"We started in Roy back in 2000 as a very small shop with three or four employees," said founder and president Dave Woodbury. "In 2004 we outgrew that building and moved out to Layton."

Initially the company bought half a building, located at 3020 N. Fairfield Road. When the other tenants of the building recently moved, PCB took over the entire structure, increasing its space from 8,000 to 14,000 square feet.

The company also invested more than a $1.5 million to further automate the facility and keep up with the latest technology. PCB Solutions is focused on one-of-a-kind printed circuitboard assembly, SMT surface mount placement, box build, through-hole and prototype assembly services and technologies.

"The main ingredient that separates us from the competition is our focus on using the latest in technology," said Steve Niblack, vice president of operations at PCB. "As production demands increase, the competition may add 20 new employees. We often take a, variation to that approach and add new equipment or a new production line to meet increased demand. This makes sure that we meet the increased requests, but in a more cost effective manner for us. There is really almost nothing we can't do in this industry. We're much more automated and can do a larger variety of jobs."

PCB also recently implemented a new online quote request system that has opened up new doors to a larger customer base. Niblack said since online operations began, the company has "had a surge of thru hole assembly requests," that has allowed PCB to become a national circuitboard assembly facility.

Since its move to Layton, PCB has grown by 100 percent each year and is anticipating revenues to be near $2 million this year.

"We're what's referred to as a contract manufacturer," Woodbury said. "We manufacture circuitboards for other companies and then they would put that board into whatever product it isthat they manufacture."

With continued demand for PCB assembly services, the company is planning another expansion project at its Layton facilities next spring. The firm is currently running one shift, but as demand increases, Woodbury said, it can easily add shifts to increase production when needed.
